Student Needs Based Training

Each student comes to an Canadian Trainco course with particular needs and reasons. From individual to individual and class to class, these needs vary. That is why we don't teach to the needs of a curriculum, but rather to the needs of the students. At the beginning of each class our instructors assess who is in the classroom, how much knowledge they already have, what type of work they do, and their primary purpose for coming to the seminar. From there the instructor will determine the best approach for the class. By rearranging training modules, bringing in different materials and spending time in the areas that the students care about the most, the instructor can present a class to match the students’ needs and not just recite a canned curriculum. Students will get the basic education they are promised and expect, but along the way it will be applied to their unique work circumstances and reasons for being in the classroom. “There is no sense talking about baseball when students are there to learn about football.”

Student Materials

For over 15 years we've been watching the interaction between student and instructor in the seminar classroom. Students who were provided a traditional college or vocational type "textbook" rarely opened them. Instead they would take notes on paper and ask the instructor if they could get a copy of his slideshow. This forced us to realize that "teaching from a curriculum" is different than "teaching to the needs of the student". No matter how much expertise has been written into a textbook, if a student doesn't read it, then that book is useless, at least to them. So Canadian Trainco seminar manuals, workbooks, reference handouts and other aids are designed specifically to meet the unique needs of maintenance technicians whose learning styles primarily include seeing, doing and verbal interaction. This method of providing course content has proven an effective way to communicate large amounts of critical information in a very limited time and is one of the reasons why we have such a high success rate in our classrooms and thousands of repeat customers.

Real World Applications

Because all of our instructors have "real world" experience, they understand what students need most in their training to perform their jobs at a high level. While theories and principles are discussed and a required part of any education, our courses put emphasis on the critical information students will need to go back to their facility the next day to work in a safer and more efficient manner.

Every seminar is designed specifically for the learning style and needs of the maintenance technician professional.

Who Should Attend

From the novice who is just learning the job to experienced multi-craft technician and degreed engineers, Canadian Trainco has trained them all. There are many dozens of job titles that represent Canadian Trainco students, but all get the education they need as our expert instructors are trained to read the people in the class, identify their purposes for being there, and then teach to the individual students’ levels and needs, even among a diverse audience. Students come from a wide variety of industries, skill-levels, company sizes, and job titles, so if you're not certain you will fit into our classes, don't worry - you will - as long as you have an interest in learning.

About Our CEUs and Certification

Upon completion of a course students receive .8 CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) for each day attended, recognized by ATI (Canadian Trainco Inc.), MTAA (Maintenance Training Association of the Americas), and in most cases, ACE (American Council on Education). Students may also qualify for a separate “MTAA Certification” designation by taking and passing an optional written exam at the end of a qualifying seminar.
